What is TED ?
TED Conferences LLC (Technology, Entertainment, Design) is a media organization that posts talks online for free distribution under the slogan "Ideas worth spreading." They address a wide range of topics within the research and practice of science and culture. The speakers are given a maximum of 18 minutes to present it in the most innovative and engaging ways they can. TED was founded in February 1984 as a conference, which has been held annually since 1990. The main TED conference is held annually in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Prior to 2014, the conference was held in Long Beach, California, United States. Past speakers include Elon Musk, Stephen Hawking, Jane Goodall, Bono etc. Since June 2006, TED talks have been offered for free viewing online through TED.com. As of January 2016, over 2,600 TED Talks are freely available on the website.

A TEDx event is a local gathering where live TED-like talks and videos previously recorded at TED conferences are shared with the community.
TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated
independently, on a community-by-community basis. The content and design of each TEDx event is unique and developed independently, but all have features in common with TED. The purpose of a TEDx event is to lend a platform to those who often don't have one.
